Dan Murphy
Dan Murphy has had poems published in Field, The Beloit Poetry Journal, Chaparral, Image and The North American Review. He was a semi-finalist for the 2013 First/Second Book Prize from Tupelo Press and for its Sunken Garden Chapbook Award in 2014. His chapbook, The Book of False Rhyme, was published by Finishing Line Press in 2013. He lives with his wife and two daughters in Los Angeles where he maintains a mortgage and a manageable caffeine habit.The Superhero
Sometimes it booms out of him
this love, waves shuddering,
the plum-stone unstuck
from his throat then
a rabbit punch struck to the temple
His sailboat goes spooning
o'er cream-white waves
Glorious Quiet Glorious Day
like washing potatoes last evening,
cutting their egg-bodies:
smell of earth and clean residue.
How it comes on unexpected,
the breath catching. Stepping
into invisible warmth.
