David Lehman

David Lehman

David Lehman's New and Selected Poems is just released by Scribner (Nov. 2013). His books of poetry include When a Woman Loves a Man and The Daily Mirror: A Journal in Poetry. He is also the author of several nonfiction books, including A Fine Romance: Jewish Songwriters, American Songs, which won ASCAP's Deems Taylor Award in 2010. He is the editor of The Oxford Book of American Poetry and the series editor of Best American Poetry. He teaches in the graduate writing program of the New School in New York City.

The Way We Live Now


She was into feminist pornography. She could talk you to death
about how her submissive bedroom posture was not
inconsistent with her political views she was for Clinton
and wore a nondescript black sweater over a throwaway
floral sundress. We have had word from our Baltimore affiliate
characterizing the threat as "imminent and significant"
and in the green room sits the bereavement counselor
while the deficit cliff grows steeper by the minute.
The poll proclaimed the worst college major
from the point of view of making money
was sociology followed by theology and nutrition.
Our information is that al Qaeda is outsourcing operations
to its satellites in Yemen. The professor made sure everyone knew
he liked the movie but deplored the hunt for Bin Laden
and his assassination certainly as an atrocity.
