Maureen McLane

Maureen N. McLane is the author of World Enough (2010), Same Life (2008) and My Poets (2012), a book of experimental criticism and memoir, which was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award in Autobiography, all from Farrar, Straus and Giroux. Her third book of poems, The Blue, will be published in 2014. She teaches at New York University.

the sun doesn't reach
in the deepest woods
are hot. Even the places

that never dry—the mosses
creeping everywhere
a damp carpet underfoot—
are dry. Even the quietest

places you've never been
are disquieted by your cry.
