"Her feat made national news in Norway, where newspapers
explained that the buoyancy of their stomach gas helps cows
stay afloat when they swim."

She lifted her head and decided to swim
for freedom, near Levanger, in Norway,
leaving behind the other cows content to stay
chewing green. Flde alone had a whim

and the heart to accomplish it, wading in
until she could float, the fjord icy and gray.
She lifted her head, deciding to swim
for a life free from Levanger, in Norway.

At first the farmer thought the outlook was grim
and Flde must be dead. She'd often stray
down to the beach and gaze across, her way
of taking a break from the herd. Determined in every limb,
she lifted her dreaming head and went for a swim.
